Many of you may remember these pictures from Abbey's hospital stay a few months ago. Unfortunately, her bowel problems haven't gotten any better. She's been on Miralax nonstop for the last 3 months, but still battles constipation on a daily basis. Her pediatrician admitted that she's completely stumped as to what it could be...all of her normal remedies aren't working. Soooo, she referred us to a pediatric surgeon, thinking that maybe Abbey has a structural abnormality or perhaps is lacking some nerve endings in her colon.

We visited the surgeon yesterday and it was pretty uneventful. Abbey was very nervous about the whole thing, even though we didn't talk it up at all (she's pretty keen though--can't pull anything over on her!). After yet another rectal exam (so fun for all of us), she said she didn't think that Abbey had any structural problems. That's good. The only way to tell if she's lacking nerve endings in her colon is to do a biopsy, which is an in-patient surgery. We've elected not to put Abbey through that at this point in time, seeing as how it's a very rare condition. So, we're back to the Miralax and a strict food journal to see if maybe it's a nutritional thing. We'll probably think about taking her to a gastro person in a while, but she needs some time to recover from all the trauma she's been through. At the rate we're going, she will never be potty trained!

One quick, funny story from this weekend. I'm kind of embarassed that my child knows this expression, but we'll just assume she picked it up from school. Surely nobody in my house says anything like this!

Abbey- I saw a mean lizard in the backyard today.
Me- Really? How do you know it was mean?
Abbey- He had a mean look on his face.
Me- Oh...what did you do?
Abbey- I gave him a mean look right back and then I kicked him in the balls.

I was dying!!!! But also secretly laughing. Where do they get this stuff?
