Waiting Game

The Good News- We went in for a non-stress test for the baby yesterday. I think this is a pretty funny name for a test, given that watching the baby's heart rate fluctuate wildly stresses me out to no end. The test involves strapping a heart rate monitor to my massive belly and handing me a clicker to press every time the baby moves. The machine prints out a chart matching the heart rate and movement.

Anyway, the good news is that the baby did very well on the test. The OB called it "wildly reactive" which means baby was moving all about and his heart rate was accelerating accordingly with each movement. That's good. It means he is getting enough oxygen to feel energetic.

So, now we wait until tomorrow's test to see what the next steps will be. We'll have an ultrasound tomorrow to measure the baby's growth. If he hasn't had significant growth since last week's ultrasound, then they'll send us over to the hospital to induce right away. My OB is on call tomorrow afternoon and evening, so that's good.

If it turns out that he has had some good growth in the last week, then we'll likely wait until March 5th (next Thursday) to induce (at which point I will be 39 weeks and 1 day pregnant...but who's counting?).

To say we are ready to have him out where we can see him is an understatement. (Well, I'm ready at least. Scott said last night that he would be ok waiting until 40 weeks if tomorrow's ultrasound looks good, but then again, he hasn't been pregnant for the last 9 months!) I think Abbey is most excited at the prospect of spending the night with friends while we are in the hospital. And Minx the cat probably doesn't want the baby to come for quite a while, as she has decided his crib is a very comfy napping spot.
